Box Score MEMPHIS—After dropping the first set, Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs won the next three over visiting Union to move one step closer to the No. 2 seed in next month's Gulf South Conference Tournament.
The Lady Bucs (16-8, 9-3 GSC) pulled away to a 22-16 lead in the first set, but Union (4-22, 1-12) scored 10 of the final 12 points to win the set 26-24. The Lady Bucs stormed back to a 25-11 win in the second set to level the match, and they took control with a 25-20 win in a nip-and-tuck third set. After the fourth set was tied 12-12, the Lady Bucs rattled off nine straight points on their way to a 25-15 win to seal the match.
Alecia Stewart (Rochester, Minn./Century HS) set career highs with 20 kills and a .529 attack percentage to lead the offense, while
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) scored 11 kills and
Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) added 10.
Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) logged a match-best 26 digs, while
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) and
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) added 10 each. Miles also dished out a match-best 46 assists.
Kristin Cook led Union with 14 kills, and Linsey Mirtsching had 21 assists. Micaela Bailey added 15 digs.
The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play for the final time Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to Florence, Ala., to face Palm Beach Atlantic in a key South Region matchup. Their final home match of the season is set for next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against North Alabama.
