Lady Hawks Edge Lady Bucs in Four

Alexis Gillis had 12 kills in the Lady Bucs' four-set loss at Shorter Saturday night.
Box Score ROME, Ga.—Host Shorter claimed a four-set win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday night in Gulf South Conference volleyball action.

The hosts jumped out to a quick 16-5 lead in the first set as they rolled to a 25-14 win, and Shorter (22-5, 12-4 GSC) took full control midway through the second set with eight straight points after they had taken an 11-10 lead.  The Lady Bucs (18-10, 11-4) won the third set 25-15 after scoring 11 of 12 points to turn a 9-7 lead into a 20-8 lead.  The Lady Hawks ended it in the fourth set by outscoring the Lady Bucs 5-1 after the teams were tied at 20.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 12 kills, and Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 10.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) had 35 assists, while Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected a match-best 21 digs.

Jasmine Crook paced the Lady Hawks with 12 kills as Jordan Corder dished out a match-best 35 assists.  Tanequa Whitman had 17 digs.

The Lady Bucs wrap up the regular season tomorrow at noon as they visit West Georgia.
