Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs advanced to the finals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament for the first time in school history Saturday afternoon with a four-set win over Alabama-Huntsville.
The Lady Bucs (20-11) survived a back-and-forth first set that featured 12 ties and eight lead changes, scoring the final four points to win 26-24 after trailing 24-22. The Lady Chargers (12-21) answered with a 25-22 win in the second set, scoring the final four points to spoil a 22-21 Lady Bucs lead. CBU hit .500 in the third set as they cruised to a 25-8 win, and they scored the final six points in the fourth set to win 25-21 after trailing 21-19.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led four Lady Bucs in double figures in kills with 17, and
Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) hit .583 as she pounded 15 kills.
Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) and
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 10 kills each.
Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) notched a match-high 33 digs, followed by 10 from
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS), who set a match-high 47 assists.
Kelsey Williams paced UAH with 15 kills. Stacey Sargent had 19 digs, and Kelly Wilson led the team in assists with 21.
The Lady Bucs advance to the GSC championship match tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m. against the top-seeded hosts, West Florida.
