Box Score FLORENCE, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Palm Beach Atlantic Friday night in their final non-conference match of the season.
The Sailfish (29-3) scored the first seven points and cruised to a 25-14 win in the first set, but the Lady Bucs (16-9) drew even in the second set as they built an 18-11 lead and held on to win 25-19. In the third set, the Sailfish opened a 15-8 lead, but the Lady Bucs rallied to stun them 26-24, but the Sailfish sent the match to a decisive fifth set by winning 25-18 in set four. In the fifth set, the Lady Bucs took an early 7-3 lead and led as late as 11-10, but PBA scored six of the final seven points to win 15-12 and claim the match.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) paced the Lady Bucs' offense with 12 kills, followed by 11 from
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS).
Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected 13 digs, while
Lauren South (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) had 12 and
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) added 11 to her 41 assists.
Marie Quesada led Palm Beach Atlantic with 22 kills and 22 digs, both match-highs, while setter Becca Acevedo had 60 assists.
The Lady Bucs play their final home match of the season Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against North Alabama. They wrap up the regular season with a three-match trip to Alabama-Huntsville, Shorter, and West Georgia beginning Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Alabama-Huntsville.
