Lady Bucs' Ride Ends in Semifinals

Kelsey Miles had 23 assists in the Lady Bucs' three-set loss to Palm Beach Atlantic in the NCAA Division II South Regional semifinals Friday night.
Box Score TAMPA, Fla.—Third-seeded Palm Beach Atlantic handed the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs a three-set loss Friday night in the NCAA South Region semifinals to end the Lady Bucs' season.

The Sailfish (35-3) jumped out to an early 9-1 lead in the first set and appeared in full control, but the Lady Bucs (21-13) pulled within two points four different times, coming as close as 24-23 before dropping the set 25-23.  In the second set, the Lady Bucs led as late as 23-22, but PBA finished the set with three straight points to win 25-23 and take a 2-0 lead.  After a 2-2 start in the third set, the Sailfish scored 10 of 11 points to take a 12-3 lead, and they never allowed the Lady Bucs closer than four points again as they won 25-15 to end the match.

Alecia Stewart (Rochester, Minn./Century HS) led the Lady Bucs with seven kills, while Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) and Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) logged six each.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) had 23 assists, and Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) notched 10 digs.

Rachel Jones led the way for the Sailfish with 12 kills and a .611 hitting percentage, while Mariela Quesada had 11.  Becca Acevedo had 36 assists, and Melissa Buckingham notched a match-high 14 digs.

The Lady Bucs advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history this season, and yesterday's win over No. 17 West Florida was the first NCAA Tournament win in school history.

The loss concluded the CBU careers of seniors Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy), Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS), Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS), Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS), Lauren South (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS), and Alecia Stewart (Rochester, Minn./Century HS).
