Lady Bucs Clinch No. 2 Seed in Four-Set Win

Lizzie McLean pounded 13 kills and hit .500 to lead the Lady Bucs to a four-set win over North Alabama Tuesday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs won their final home match of the season Tuesday night as they topped North Alabama in four sets to clinch the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Gulf South Conference Tournament.

The Lions (11-15, 7-7 GSC) rallied from an 18-12 deficit to claim the first set, and they led the second set as late as 20-19 before the Lady Bucs (17-9, 10-3) scored seven of the final 10 points to win 25-23 and even the match at one set each.  In the third set, the Lady Bucs fell behind 8-4 but scored 15 of the next 19 points to take control en route to a 25-18 win in the set.  In the fourth set, the Lady Bucs blew open a close set by scoring 11 of 15 points to break a 7-7 tie, then holding on to win 25-22.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 16 kills, followed by 13 from Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS), who hit .500.  Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 11 digs to her 11 kills, and Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) had 10 kills.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) dished out a match-best 51 assists, and Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) notched a match-best 16 digs.

Priscilla Massengale paced the Lions' offense with a match-best 17 kills and a team-high 14 digs.  Hope Rayburn collected 50 assists.

With the win, the Lady Bucs clinch at least a tie for second place in the GSC, and they would hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their win over top-seeded West Florida.

The Lady Bucs hit the road to wrap up the regular season this weekend with a three-match road trip.  They visit Alabama-Huntsville Friday night at 5:30 p.m., Shorter Saturday night at 6 p.m., and West Georgia Sunday at noon.  The GSC Tournament will be in Pensacola, Fla., Nov. 16-18.
