Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs won their final home match of the season Tuesday night as they topped North Alabama in four sets to clinch the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Gulf South Conference Tournament.
The Lions (11-15, 7-7 GSC) rallied from an 18-12 deficit to claim the first set, and they led the second set as late as 20-19 before the Lady Bucs (17-9, 10-3) scored seven of the final 10 points to win 25-23 and even the match at one set each. In the third set, the Lady Bucs fell behind 8-4 but scored 15 of the next 19 points to take control en route to a 25-18 win in the set. In the fourth set, the Lady Bucs blew open a close set by scoring 11 of 15 points to break a 7-7 tie, then holding on to win 25-22.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 16 kills, followed by 13 from
Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS), who hit .500.
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 11 digs to her 11 kills, and
Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) had 10 kills.
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) dished out a match-best 51 assists, and
Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) notched a match-best 16 digs.
Priscilla Massengale paced the Lions' offense with a match-best 17 kills and a team-high 14 digs. Hope Rayburn collected 50 assists.
With the win, the Lady Bucs clinch at least a tie for second place in the GSC, and they would hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their win over top-seeded West Florida.
The Lady Bucs hit the road to wrap up the regular season this weekend with a three-match road trip. They visit Alabama-Huntsville Friday night at 5:30 p.m., Shorter Saturday night at 6 p.m., and West Georgia Sunday at noon. The GSC Tournament will be in Pensacola, Fla., Nov. 16-18.
