Lady Bucs Sweep Tigers in GSC Opener

Alexis Gillis led the Lady Bucs with 13 kills in a three-set win at West Alabama Friday night.
Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs hit .393, the sixth-best percentage in a match in school history, as they cruised to a three-set win at West Alabama in the Gulf South Conference opener for both schools.

In the first set, the Lady Bucs (6-3, 1-0 GSC) rallied from an 18-14 deficit to reclaim the lead with six straight points en route to a 25-22 win in the set.  After trading points in the second set to an 11-all tie, the Lady Bucs exploded for 10 of the next 12 points to win 25-18.  In the third set, the Tigers (7-3, 0-1) took a 12-11 lead, but three straight Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) kills put the Lady Bucs ahead for good, winning the set 25-18 to win the match.

Gillis led the Lady Bucs with 13 kills, while Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) added 10.  Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) tacked on nine kills and hit .471, and Kaitlin Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) hit .636 with eight kills.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected 29 assists, and Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) garnered a match-best 15 digs, and Lauren South (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) added 12.

Morgan Ray led UWA with 13 kills, and Chanel Davis added 12.  Chelsea Payne logged 27 assists, and Casey Williams led the Tigers with 10 digs.

The Lady Bucs have a week off before they open a five-match homestand Friday night, Sept. 21, against West Florida.
