Lady Bucs Hold Off Blazers in Four

Kelsey Miles collected 45 assists in the Lady Bucs' four-set win over Valdosta State Saturday.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs remained in first place in the Gulf South Conference with a four-set win over visiting Valdosta State Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs (8-3, 3-0 GSC) scored the first 10 points as they rolled to a 25-13 win in the first set, but Valdosta State (8-5, 2-3) fought their way back into the match with a 25-22 win in the second set, scoring six of the last nine points after a 19-all tie.  In the third set, the Lady Bucs rallied from a 23-21 deficit to win 25-23, and they repeated the script in the fourth set as they scored the final four points to win 25-22 after trailing 22-21.

Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) paced the Lady Bucs with 14 kills to go with 11 digs, while Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 11 kills.  Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) tacked on 10 kills, and #Kaitlin Keathley hit .556 with 10 kills.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) had 45 assists to go with 11 digs, and Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected a team-high 16 digs.

Nikki McDaniel and Tania Tauiliili led the Blazers with 11 kills each, while Chelsea Luttfring notched a match-best 17 digs.  Hope Ripsam and Ashley Lala collected 19 assists each.

The Lady Bucs return to action Friday night at 7 p.m. when they host Alabama-Huntsville.
