Lady Bucs Outlast Wolves in Five

Alecia Stewart set three career-highs in the Lady Bucs' five-set win over West Georgia Sunday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs held off visiting West Georgia in five sets Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action.

The Wolves (8-7, 3-3 GSC) claimed a 25-18 win in the first set, but the Lady Bucs (10-4, 5-1) answered with a 25-20 win in the second set and a 25-15 win in the third set to take control.  But the Wolves forced a fifth set by cruising to a 25-13 win in the fourth set.  After UWG took a quick 3-0 lead in the fifth set, the Lady Bucs scored eight of the next 10 to take an 8-5 lead they would never relinquish, eventually winning the set 15-11.

Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 17 kills, while Alecia Stewart (Rochester, Minn./Century HS) set career-highs with 12 kills, five block assists, and a .429 hitting percentage.  Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) added 12 kills, and Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) recorded a match-best 49 assists.  Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) posted a match-high 23 digs, followed by 15 from Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) and 10 from Alison Welch (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS).

Emily Reul led UWG with 21 kills.  Amanda Miller had 45 assists, and Melissa Holt collected a team-high 20 digs.

The Lady Bucs play their next two on the road, visiting Union Tuesday night at 7 and North Alabama Saturday afternoon at 1.  Their next home match is set for Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m., when they face West Alabama for Senior Day.
