Chargers Top Lady Bucs in Four

Brinsley Cooper hit .533 with 10 kills, but the Lady Bucs dropped a four-set decision at Alabama-Huntsville Tuesday night.
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs won the first set, but host Alabama-Huntsville rolled to decisive wins in the final three sets to claim a four-set win Tuesday night.

The Lady Bucs (7-11, 4-5 GSC) jumped to a 13-7 lead in the first set and held on for a 25-20 win. The Chargers (7-10, 4-5) jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set, but the Lady Bucs trimmed the lead to 12-11. UAH dominated the rest of the way, winning the set 25-15 and following with a 25-12 win in the third set. UAH won the fourth set 25-14 to claim the victory.

Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) led the Lady Bucs' offense with 10 kills, hitting .533. Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) and Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) posted team-highs of eight digs each, with Gillis adding nine kills. Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) picked up 28 assists.

Olivia Bauman led UAH with 21 kills, hitting .576. Ashton Baker posted 30 assists and 11 digs, and Stacey Sargent had a match-best 12 digs.

The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play this weekend as they play in the UWF South Regional Crossover in Pensacola, Fla. Friday, they take on Barry at 9:30 a.m. and Tampa at 2 p.m. Saturday, they open against Florida Southern at 9:30 a.m. before facing Eckerd at 2 p.m. The Lady Bucs' next home game is set for Tuesday night, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. against Union.
