Box Score MEMPHIS-Despite playing without two starters, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs claimed a three-set win over visiting Union Tuesday night at Canale Arena.
The Lady Bucs (9-14, 5-5 GSC) rallied from a 20-15 deficit in the first set to take a 24-23 lead, but Union (6-16, 2-8) scored the next two to serve for set point themselves. The Lady Bucs answered with three straight points to win the set 27-25. In the second set, the Lady Bucs jumped out to a 15-9 lead and stretched it out to win 25-15. The Lady Bucs won the third set 25-18 to clinch victory.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) posted team-highs of 14 kills and 11 digs, while
Alison Welch (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) added 12 kills and nine digs.
Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) matched Gillis with 11 digs, and
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) dished out a career-high 35 assists.
Elise Seufert led Union with 13 digs.
The Lady Bucs have a week off before returning to the court next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they host North Alabama.
