Box Score MEMPHIS-After dropping a hard-fought opening set, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied to win the next three and claim a four-set victory over visiting North Alabama Tuesday night at Canale Arena.
The Lady Bucs (10-14, 6-5 GSC) led for much of the first set, but the Lions (6-18, 4-8) battled back to take a 21-19 lead. After ties at 22-all and 23-all, the Lions scored the last two points of the set to win 25-23. In the second set, the Lady Bucs again opened an early lead, and UNA again rallied, tying the set at 17-all. But this time, the Lady Bucs would score eight of the final 12 points to win the set 25-21. In set three, the Lady Bucs jumped out to a 13-6 lead and held on, winning the set 25-20. The Lady Bucs blazed to a 19-8 lead in the fourth and final set, winning 25-14 to clinch the match.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) blasted a career-high 22 kills, hitting .459 as she added a dozen digs.
Alison Welch (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) added 15 kills, and
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) logged a career-best 53 assists to go with nine digs.
Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) notched a match-high 17 digs.
Natasha Fomina led UNA with 14 kills, while Hope Rayburn had team-highs of 34 assists and 13 digs.
The Lady Bucs return to action this weekend with a pair of home matches. They take on No. 21 West Florida Friday night at 6 p.m. before taking on West Alabama Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
