Lady Bucs Sweep Scots

Brinsley Cooper hit .857 as the Lady Bucs swept Lyon Tuesday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS-Freshman middle hitter Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind., Rossville HS) hit .857 to lead the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to a three-set sweep of visiting Lyon Tuesday night at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs (6-9) jumped out to a 22-11 lead in the opening set, eventually winning 25-17. In the second set, the Lady Bucs led 15-9, but Lyon (9-13) rallied to claim a 23-22 lead, but the Lady Bucs scored five of the last seven points to win 27-25. In the third set, the Lady Bucs broke out of a 14-all tie to pull away to win 25-20 and earn the victory.

Cooper pounded 12 kills in just 14 tries, and her .857 hitting percentage would have shattered the school record had she met the minimum 20 attempts for the record books. Stephanie Korbakes (Palos Heights, Ill./Alan B. Shepard HS) hit .389 with eight kills, and Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) dished out 32 assists. Alison Welch (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) had a match-best nine digs, followed by eight from Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS).

Katarina Frickleton led the Scots with seven kills, and Ferrin Macon had 23 assists. Ariel Smith notched nine digs.

The Lady Bucs return to action this weekend, hosting West Georgia Friday night at 6 p.m. and Valdosta State Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
