Lady Bucs Top Lady Chargers in Four

Sami Gruse's 60 assists led the Lady Bucs to a four-set win over Alabama-Huntsville. She had the most assists in a four-set match for CBU since 2005.
Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs hit .333 as they rolled to a four-set win over Alabama-Huntsville Tuesday night in their final home match of the season.

The Lady Bucs (13-17, 8-8 GSC) used a 9-3 burst in the middle of the first set to take control, going on to win the set 25-19. In the second set, they jumped out to a 20-9 lead, but UAH (11-19, 6-10) scored 14 of the next 18 points to pull within a 25-23 margin before a Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) kill ended the set. In the third set, UAH rallied from a 19-15 deficit to win the set 27-25. In the fourth set, the Lady Bucs took an early lead and held it throughout, pulling away to win 25-14.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) pounded a team-hgh 18 kills with 17 digs, and Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) hit .591 with 16 kills. Kurtz had 15 kills, hitting .448, while Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) had a match-best 24 digs. Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) had a career night, dishing out 60 assists, fourth-most in a four-set match in school history and the most since Lauren Amundson's 71 in 2005, when sets were played to 30 points.

Haley Snyder led UAH with 11 kills. Ashton Baker had 28 assists and 10 digs, and Stacey Sargent collected a team-best 14 digs.

The Lady Bucs wrap up the regular season this weekend with a trip to the Peach State. They visit West Georgia Friday night at 5 p.m. and Valdosta State Saturday at noon. The Lady Bucs will play in the GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., next weekend, with the quarterfinal round set for Friday, Nov. 22.
