Lady Bucs Sweep Lady Reddies

Brittany Toney had 11 digs and a team-high four aces in the Lady Bucs' three-set win over Henderson State Tuesday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs hit a season-best .386 as they rolled to a three-set sweep of visiting Henderson State Tuesday night at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs (12-15) set the tone early, scoring 10 straight points to turn a 6-5 edge into a 16-5 lead in the first set, which they went on to win 25-13. After spotting HSU (4-21) a 2-0 lead in the second set, the Lady Bucs scored five straight and never looked back, winning the set 25-14. In the third set, the Lady Bucs scored seven of the last eight points to put it away with a 25-17 win to clinch the match.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) logged match-highs of 11 kills and 13 digs to lead the Lady Bucs, and Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) and Stephanie Korbakes (Palos Heights, Ill./Alan B. Shepard HS) added eight kills each. Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) notched 11 digs and a match-high four aces in two sets. Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) had 26 kills in two sets also.

Cheyenne Derr, Katrina Goulbourne and Jami Jackson led HSU with four kills each Lindsey Calabrese had nine digs, and Taylor Thompson added 13 assists.

The Lady Bucs' .386 hitting percentage was their best of the season, eclipsing the previous high of .348 against North Alabama last Tuesday. The .386 percentage is the seventh-highest in school history and the highest since hitting .393 in September 2012 at West Alabama.

The Lady Bucs wrap up the season with five straight GSC matches four of them on the road. They visit Shorter Friday night at 6 p.m. and Lee Saturday at noon. Their final home match is next Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. against Alabama-Huntsville.
