Lady Bucs Hold Off Tigers in Five Sets

Jessica Reber had 50 assists and six aces to lead the Lady Bucs to a five-set win at West Alabama Saturday afternoon.
Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs won the first two sets and held on, eventually defeating host West Alabama in five sets Saturday afternoon to even their Gulf South Conference record.

In the opening set, the Lady Bucs (4-8, 2-2 GSC) scored 10 of 14 points to open a lead after a 10-10 tie. UWA rallied to pull within a point at 24-23, but the Lady Bucs scored the final point on a service error to win 25-23. In the second set, the Lady Bucs jumped to a 9-4 lead and led by as many as nine points in a 25-19 win. The Tigers (8-5, 2-2) won the third set 25-19, and they rallied from a 19-17 CBU lead to win the fourth set 25-21. The Lady Bucs gained revenge in the final set, however, scoring eight of nine points to take control after falling behind 3-2 early, eventually winning 15-9.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs' offense with 20 kills, and Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) hit .471 as she pounded 19 kills. Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) had 50 assists and six aces, both match-highs, and Alison Welch (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) notched a team-high 15 digs. Gillis and Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) added 14 digs each.

Morgan Ray led the Tigers with 22 kills, and Sadie Beam added 17. Lindsey Ball garnered a match-best 17 digs, and Callie Murphy dished out 31 assists.

The Lady Bucs come home for the first time this season Friday night at 7 p.m. as they host Shorter.
