Lady Bucs Edge Shorter 1-0

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs moved into a tie for third place in the Gulf South Conference standings as they celebrated Senior Day with a 1-0 win over Shorter Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bucs (12-4, 7-4 GSC) used a combination of two seniors for the only goal they would need in the 66th minute. After Shorter (10-6, 5-6) cleared a CBU corner kick, Alex Bickenbach (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) chipped the ball back into the box. Emily Smith (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) touched the ball away from Shorter goalkeeper Alden Powell and scored on a wide open net for the game's lone goal.

Fellow senior Robyn Wade (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) made five saves as she logged her seventh shutout of the season and the 21st of her career. For the game, the Lady Bucs out-shot Shorter 17-9, including a 12-4 edge in the second half. SU, however, held a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.

The Lady Bucs wrap up the regular season Friday night at 5 p.m. as they visit Union. The GSC Tournament will be played Nov. 4-9. The top two seeds earn a bye to the semifinals in Pensacola, Fla., Nov. 7. The quarterfinals will be hosted by the higher seeds Nov. 4.

CBU recognized its six seniors, Bickenbach, Lauren Browning (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy), Lydia Fuson (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS), Carmen Manes (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy), Smith and Wade, before the game.
