FLORENCE, Ala.-Host North Alabama advanced to the Gulf South Conference Tournament semifinals with a three-set sweep of the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Tuesday night.
The fourth-seeded Lions (19-11) jumped to a 13-3 lead in the first set on their way to a 25-17 win, and they stretched out a narrow lead to win the second set 25-19 to take full control of the match. In the final set, UNA took a quick 7-2 lead and never allowed the fifth-seeded Lady Bucs (16-15) closer than two points again, winning 25-17 to clinch the sweep.
Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) led the Lady Bucs' offense with 10 kills, hitting .304, while
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added six to go with nine kills.
Demi Chipman (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) matched Gillis for the team lead with nine digs.
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) dished out 26 assists, ending her career with 1,546 assists and 524 digs.
Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) had five kills and four digs, wrapping up her career with 194 kills and 652 digs.
Jessica Austin led UNA with 11 kills, and Lexie Bradley tacked on 10. Andrea De Leon had 35 assists, and Ashtyn Kapovich notched a match-high 16 digs.
