CLEVELAND, Tenn.-Host Lee University hit .281 as they defeated the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs in four sets Friday night, clinching the No. 5 seed for CBU in next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament.
The Lady Flames (12-17, 9-10 GSC) jumped to a 12-4 lead in the first set en route to a 25-15 win. In the second set, they took a quick 5-0 lead and never relinquished it, winning 25-19. In the third set, the Lady Bucs (16-13, 12-7) used a seven-point run to rally for an 18-15 lead after trailing 15-11. Lee fought back to tie the set three more times, but the Lady Bucs won 25-22 to send the match to a fourth set. The fourth set was all Lee, as the Lady Flames took an 8-0 lead and pulled away to a 25-10 win to clinch the match.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) had 11 digs to go with six kills, and
Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) added eight kills.
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) dished out 27 assists to go with 10 digs.
Erin Hill paced the Lady Flames with 16 kills, hitting .394. Latrice Johnson notched a match-best 19 digs, and Sadie Johnson picked up 30 assists.
The Lady Bucs wrap up the 2014 regular season tomorrow at noon as they visit Shorter. With tonight's loss, the Lady Bucs will be the No. 5 seed in the GSC Tournament. They will visit No. 4 seed North Alabama Tuesday night. Match time and the remainder of the bracket will be announced later.
