MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers Univrsity Lady Bucs won their second straight Gulf South Conference match Saturday afternoon as they swept West Alabama in three sets at Canale Arena.
In the opening set, the Lady Bucs (3-4, 2-1 GSC) jumped out to a quick 7-2 leadand held on, winning 25-19. In the second set it was UWA (2-5, 2-1) who took an early 5-2 lead, but the Lady Bucs scored seven straight to turn a 16-14 deficit into a 21-16 lead, holding on to win 25-20. The third set saw the Lady Bucs rally from a 20-17 deficit, scoring eight of the last 11 points to win 25-23 and complete the sweep.
Maggie Sorensen (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led CBU with 12 kills and two blocks, adding nine digs.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) collected 10 kills and 11 digs, and
Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) tacked on 10 kills, hitting a match-best .562.
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) had 37 assists and 13 digs, and
Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) notched a match-best 16 digs.
Yanesha Johnson led the Tigers with 10 kills. Callie Murphy logged 16 assists, while Sadie Beam and Lindsey Ball added 10 digs each.
The Lady Bucs return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they host Alabama-Huntsville.
