MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs dropped a pair of three-set matches Saturday in the CBU Invitational, losing to Lindenwood Saturday morning and Harding Saturday night.
In the opener, Lindenwood (1-2) reeled off nine of 10 points to turn a 9-8 CBU (1-3) lead into a 17-10 Lindenwood edge, winning the set 25-17. In the second set, the Lady Lions built an 18-11 lead and held on to win 25-21, and they finished the third set with seven of the match's final nine points to win 25-19.
Maggie Sorensen (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led the Lady Bucs with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) notched 26 assists, and
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) had nine kills, eight digs and three aces for CBU.
Sarah Makowski led Lindenwood with 11 kills. Anna Reichert recorded a match-high 14 digs, and Ivy Reynolds garnered 28 assists.
In the nightcap, Harding (3-1) opened the match by scoring seven of the first eight points, building a 19-7 lead on their way to a 19-7 win in the opening set. CBU built leads of 11-5 and 16-9 in the second set, but HU outscored the Lady Bucs 16-6 down the stretch to rally for a 25-22 win. In the final set, the Lady Bucs held an 18-13 edge, but Harding scored 12 of the final 17 to rally for a 25-23 win to clinch the victory.
Sorensen had nine kills, six digs and three aces for the Lady Bucs, while
Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) added nine kills and eight digs.
Marisa Wong (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) logged a match-best 10 digs, while Reber collected 31 assists.
Erica Heim led Harding with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Marindia Turner also had 10 digs. Taryn Eubank added 32 assists.
The Lady Bucs hit the road Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they open GSC play at North Alabama. Their next home match is Friday night at 6 p.m. as they host West Georgia.
