Lady Bucs Sweep Wolves

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs served a season-high 12 aces and hit a season-best .407 as they rolled to a three-set sweep over West Georgia Friday night at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The first set was mostly back-and-forth, with UWG (3-11, 0-9 GSC) leading as late as 17-16. Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) answered with a kill to tie the match, then she served five straight aces to extend the lead to 22-17, and CBU (6-10, 3-6) went on to win 25-18.
• The Lady Bucs used two aces each from Nina Tuszynski (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley HS) and Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) as part of an 8-1 run to take an early 9-4 lead in the second set, which CBU went on to win 25-13.
• CBU took control of the third set with a five-point run that gave them a 17-8 edge, and after dropping two points to the Wolves, CBU scored the final eight to win 25-10 and complete the sweep.

KEY STATS:
• Gillis hit a season-best .481 with 14 kills, a season-high six aces, five digs and two blocks.
• Emily Justice (Horn Lake, Miss./Lake Cormorant HS) hit .538 with a season-high eight kills.
• Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) added eight kills.
• Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) dished out a match-high 36 assists.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) led CBU with nine digs, adding three aces.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs wrap up the first half of the GSC schedule tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host West Alabama.
