PENSACOLA, Fla.-Host West Florida scored two first-half goals and never trailed as they claimed a 4-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• Alissa Festagallo put the Argos (14-4) on the board first in the 17th minute as she scored off a Sara Helgadottir corner kick.
• The Argos added to their lead in the 21st minute as Sofie Broch-Lips scored on a one-timer off a cross from Kaley Ward.
• The Lady Bucs (10-7-1) halved the deficit in the 64th minute as
Alex Swanson (Memphis, Tenn./Arlington HS) scored after
Camilla Rodrigues (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School) found her on the left side of the 18-yard box.
• UWF added a goal to its advantage in the 73rd minute as Bri Young curled a free kick from 30 yards out into the top of the net.
• The Argos scored again in the 82nd minute as Emily Vogler scored on a long shot to set the final margin.
KEY STATS:• The Argos out-shot CBU 17-5 for the game, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
