Lady Bucs’ Comeback Falls Short in 63-55 Loss

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied from a 20-point first half deficit to pull within one point late in the fourth quarter Wednesday afternoon, but visiting Harding held on for a 63-55 win in the final non-conference game for both schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bisons (6-2) rode the hot hand of Lundon Williams to a 21-3 run to start. Williams knocked down her first six shots, five from three-point range, as she scored 17 of her career-high 22 during the run, which she capped with a runner that gave HU a 21-3 lead with 2:08 remaining in the first quarter.
• The Lady Bucs (4-6) used a 9-2 burst to trim the lead to 23-12 on a pair of Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) free throws with 8:08 remaining in the second quarter, but Harding answered with a 15-6 run to take a 38-18 lead on a Correy Moyer layup with 2:04 remaining in the half.
• CBU opened the third quarter by pounding the ball inside to Reeves, who scored 10 points during an 18-6 run that brought the Lady Bucs within 46-41 on a Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) triple with 4:36 remaining in the third quarter.
• CBU came within four points at 49-45 on a Lindsey Owen (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) bucket with 44 seconds remaining in the third.
• Neither team scored for more than two minutes to start the third quarter, when Kaylee Wiedower scored a layup to give Harding a 52-45 edge with 7:40 remaining. CBU made its biggest push later in the quarter, when Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) and Reeves knocked down three-pointers a minute apart to bring them within 54-53 with 3:22 remaining.
• From there, however, the Lady Bucs were held to just two Luckett free throws as well as three turnovers and 0-for-5 shooting over the final three minutes.
