MEMPHIS-Visiting Mississippi College swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon in the Gulf South Conference opener for both schools, winning the opener 9-1 and the second game 2-0.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:The Lady Choctaws (5-3, 2-0 GSC) exploded for eight runs in the final two innings to take command of what had been a tie game, winning 9-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• MC struck first in the top of the first inning with a two-out RBI double after a single and a walk.
• The Lady Bucs (2-8, 0-2) tied the game back up in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) blasted a two-out solo homer to left.
• The Lady Choctaws scored six runs in the fifth inning on five singles, two doubles and two walks to take a commanding 7-1 lead.
• MC set the final margin in the sixth with two more runs on a hit batter and a pair of doubles.
KEY STATS:• Sereika went 1-for-3 with a homer, her second of the season.

Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) singled in a pinch-hit appearance.

Tiari-Jay Fernandez (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS) and
Leigh Ward (Oriental, N.C./Pamlico HS) drew walks.

Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) stole a base after reaching base when she grounded into a force play.
GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:After five scoreless innings, the Choctaws scored two runs in the top of the sixth to claim a 2-0 win in the nightcap.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• MC's Karla Beth Hux hit a pinch-hit two-run homer in the top of the sixth for the game's only runs.
