MEMPHIS-No. 2 Valdosta State pitched back-to-back shutouts as they swept the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 2-0 and 18-0 Saturday afternoon at Bland Field.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:CBU (6-20, 2-12 GSC) pitcher
Kasey Beekman (Aurora, Colo./Aliso Niguel (Calif.) HS) kept the Lady Blazers (28-2, 15-1) off balance, allowing nine hits and eight walks but striking out five and holding them to just two runs, but VSU won 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• In the top of the first inning, VSU used a walk, a stolen base and a single to plate what proved to be the only run they would need.
• VSU added an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning on a single, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single, setting the final margin at 2-0.
KEY STATS:•
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) went 2-for-3.

Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) and

GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:VSU scored at least once in all five innings as they rolled to an 18-0 win to complete the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• VSU leadoff hitter Jaime Phillips homered to lead off the game, and the Lady Blazers added another run on a walk and an RBI single.
• The Lady Blazers added three runs in the second inning on a double, a walk and three singles.
• A six-run third inning put the game out of reach as VSU converted on three doubles, three singles and a walk.
• VSU used a single and a double to plate a run in the fourth inning.
• The Lady Blazers set the final margin with a six-run fifth inning, converting on two walks, three singles, a double and a homer.
