JACKSON, Tenn.-Host Union claimed an 8-3 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• Union (21-14, 9-12 GSC) opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when they scored four runs on a walk, a single, a double and a home run.
• The Lady Bulldogs added two runs to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on two walks and two singles.
• The Lady Bucs (9-26, 2-17) halved the deficit with a three-run fifth inning.
Leigh Ward (Oriental, N.C./Pamlico HS) legged out a one-out bunt single, and
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) followed with a single. She and Ward stole second and third, respectively, then
Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) walked to load the bases.
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) hit a two-run single, and
Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) followed with an RBI single.
• Union set the final margin in the bottom of the sixth with two runs on two singles and a double.
KEY STATS:• Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
• Provence was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
• Oyhenart went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base.
• Ward was 1-for-2 with a run and a stolen base.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Lady Bucs will face Union in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday. Their next home game is Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m., when they host Southern Arkansas for a doubleheader.
