ROME, Ga.-Host Shorter claimed a hard-fought four-set victory over ther Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Tuesday night in the first Gulf South Conference match of the season for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Lady Hawks (3-1, 1-0 GSC) claimed a 25-20 win in the first set by scoring the last five points after the set had been back-and-forth.
• CBU (3-4, 0-1) jumped to a 6-2 lead in the second set and never trailed again in a 25-21 win.
• Shorter claimed a 25-21 win in the third set, using a four-point run to extend their lead from 14-13 to 18-13 in a set that had been within three points up to then.
• The Lady Hawks jumped to a commanding 15-6 win in the fourth set. CBU rallied within two points at 23-21 before Shorter scored the final two to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.
KEY STATS:•
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) had a match-best 15 kills to go with 13 digs.

Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) added eight kills and hit .250.

Marisa Wong (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) garnered a match-high 16 digs.
