Sharp-Shooting Chargers Down Lady Bucs 75-65

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Alabama Huntsville senior guard Dina Saunders scored 32 points to lead the Chargers to a 75-65 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Chargers (8-6, 5-5 GSC) opened the game with three straight triples, two by Saunders and another by twin sister Josi Saunders, to open a 9-0 lead.
• The Lady Bucs (6-8, 4-6) answered with a 16-2 run capped by back-to-back Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) triples to open the second quarter, giving CBU an 18-13 advantage with 9:04 remaining in the second quarter.
• The teams traded leads for the rest of the half, with neither team leading by more than four again in the half.
• The Chargers seized control in the third quarter, opening the period with a 16-7 run capped by a pair of Sara Jarnagin free throws with 2:26 remaining that gave them a 50-38 lead.
• CBU fought its way back into the game early in the fourth quarter, scoring the first six points to trim the lead to 52-48 on a Banks layup with 8:31 remaining. CBU came within four points three more times in the quarter but couldn't come any closer before UAH stretched the margin out with seven free throws in the final two minutes.

KEY STATS:
• Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) scored 20 points to lead the Lady Bucs, adding 10 rebounds and four assists.
• Schaefer scored 15 points with four rebounds.
• Banks tacked on 13 and dished out eight assists, one off her career-high set Saturday against North Alabama.
• The Lady Bucs shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) for the game but just 30 percent (6-of-20) from three-point range.
• UAH shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) overall and 40 percent (10-of-25) from three-point range.
• Each team committed 14 turnovers and grabbed 32 rebounds, with the Lady Bucs holding a 9-6 edge in offensive boards.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs wrap up the first half of the GSC schedule Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host Union.
