Argos Stave Off Lady Bucs 58-55

MEMPHIS-For the second time in six days, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs found themselves in a deep first-half deficit Monday night against West Florida. For the second time in six days, a furious second-half comeback brought them within one point late in the game, but visiting West Florida escaped with a 58-55 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (5-7, 3-5 GSC) jumped to an early 7-2 lead behind a three-pointer and two layups from Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy).
• West Florida (8-4, 6-2) answered with a 24-4 run, however, to take a 26-11 lead on a pair of Toni Brewer free throws with 3:19 remaining in the second quarter. The Argos led by as many as 16 points late in the first half.
• CBU began to chip into the lead when Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) and Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) sank back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute of the first half to trim the deficit to 31-21. A 7-0 burst capped by a pair of Reeves free throws cut the deficit to 37-33 with 4:00 remaining in the third quarter.
• The Lady Bucs made their biggest run in the game's final minute, after UWF had pushed its advantage back to seven points at 55-48. First, a Banks steal led to a Reeves three-point play to bring CBU within a 55-51 margin. After a pair of empty possessions, Banks made a three to cut the deficit to 56-54 with 23 seconds remaining. The Argos missed two more free throws, and Lee drew a foul with 2.1 seconds remaining with a chance to tie the game. After making the first, her second rolled off the rim and the Argos grabbed the rebound to clinch the victory, with Katie Bobos making a pair of free throws after the rebound.
