Lady Bucs Sweep Union

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs hit .343 with 11 aces as they rolled to a sweep of visiting Union Friday night at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU (12-11, 7-6 GSC) hit .556 in the opening set, jumping to early leads of 6-0 and 8-1 as they led by as many as 16 points at 24-8 before winning 25-10. Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) racked up four aces in the set.
• The Lady Bucs took control early in the second set as well, using a four-point run capped by a Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) ace to take a 7-4 edge they would not relinquish. A six-point run featuring back-to-back Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) aces gave CBU a 23-15 lead, and they went on to win 25-17.
• CBU again took a quick 6-2 lead in the third set, but Union (7-16, 4-8) battled back to take a 15-13 edge. After the set was tied at 15, 16, 18, 19 and 20, CBU took the lead for good with a three-point run to go ahead 23-20. Union whittled the lead back to 23-22 but CBU scored the final two to clinch the sweep, winning 25-22 on an Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) kill.

KEY STATS:
• Reber had 22 assists, six aces, four kills and two blocks for 11 points.
• Lenoir hit a career-best .500 with 11 kills and four digs.
• Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) hit .625 with five kills and four blocks.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) notched a match-best nine digs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Lady Bucs return to action Tuesday night when they visit Lee at 5 p.m. Their next home match is Friday night, Oct. 28, when they host North Alabama at 7 p.m.
