Banks' Game-Winner Lifts Lady Bucs to 67-66 Win

MEMPHIS-Last Tuesday night at Union, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs led for 30 minutes before losing a close game in the final seconds. Tonight, they trailed visiting Harding for 39 minutes, but junior guard Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn., White Station HS) made a jumper in the lane with 3.6 seconds remaining to give the Lady Bucs a 67-66 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bisons (6-2) took control late in the first quarter with a 9-0 run capped by a Falan Miller basket that gave them a 21-13 lead to end the quarter. A 6-0 burst midway through the second quarter extended their lead to 30-19 with 4:24 remaining in the half.
• The Harding lead remained between six and 13 points through the end of the third quarter, as a Falan Miller triple gave them a 56-43 lead, their largest of the night, with 1:26 remaining in the third.
Makayla Enochs (Finley, Tenn./Dyer County HS) started the fourth quarter with a basket to spark the CBU (3-2) comeback. Three-pointers by Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) and Enochs started an 8-0 burst that brought the Lady Bucs within 58-56 on a Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup with 5:32 remaining.
• Harding's lead stayed between one and four points into the game's final seconds. a Correy Moyer layup gave them a 66-63 edge with 1:06 remaining. Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) drew the Lady Bucs within a point when she scored a bucket with 45 seconds remaining, and after a stop, Banks knocked down the game-winner with 3.6 seconds remaining.
• Harding's last-second three-pointer missed, giving CBU the 67-66 win.

KEY STATS:
• Banks scored a team-high 15 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. She shot 6-of-13 from the floor.

• Harding out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 31-25, including a 9-4 edge in offensive boards, but they committed 20 turnovers to CBU's 15.

HEAD COACH SARAH CONDRA'S THOUGHTS:
About the win:
"At Union, we played great for about 30 minutes, and then we weren't as good in the last 10. Tonight, we were bad for about 30 minutes, but we were really good for the last 10 and that was the difference in the game for us. We found a way to step it up defensively in the fourth quarter, and the offense started running and CB was huge in the last quarter."

About her team's resilience:
"Their composure when things didn't go as well as you drew it up, they still found the open man and had the composure to hit that shot."

On Sara Owen's first career start:
"She earned that start defensively. Up at Union, Perkins really hurt us on the dribble drive. I went to Sara in the fourth quarter and she did a great job of containing her. A'ndrea Haney is just a great player. She puts her head down and she's going to make you stop her. I thought Sara did a really good job."

On Mikaela Blissett's impact:
"She's just solid. That's why she's starting. She's solid defensively. She got the big deflection at the end of the game. She's so smart in getting her shots. She gathers herself so well around the basket. She doesn't get flustered. She's not a primary scorer for us, but she knows how to get her 6 to 8 points."

About the combination of playing Union and Harding back-to-back:
"I think the Union game gave us a lot of confidence. Our girls went into that game thinking that we could compete, and that gave us confidence coming into tonight. To me, this team is equally as good as Union. They're always solid. I love how Tim coaches his girls, I love how their team plays. So we knew this was going to be a tough battle tonight leading into Union again, because that will give us even more confidence going into Saturday."

COURTNEY BANKS' THOUGHTS:
On the comeback:
"I know we were down by 10 for the longest time. Every time we came in the huddle, coach said we've got this, we've got this. And finally we got the rolls. It was shots we normally take and we normally make, so I knew we'd make them later on."

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday night at 5 p.m. as they host No. 22 Union.
