JACKSON, Tenn.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a non-conference doubleheader with Asbury Friday afternoon at Union's Fesmire Field.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:Junior
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) threw a one-hit shutout and went 2-for-3 with four RBI as the Lady Bucs (4-12) won the opener 8-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• CBU gave Steagall all the run support she would need in the bottom of the first inning.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) and
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) started the inning with singles, and Steagall scored them with a double to left-center.
• The Lady Bucs put it out of reach with five runs in the bottom of the third.
Blake Andres (Arlington, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) led off with a single, and Johnson followed with a one-out single. Steagall drove them both in with a single to right. Pinch-runner
Kasey Beekman (Aurora, Colo./Aliso Niguel (Calif.) HS) scored when
Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) tripled to right center, and a
Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) single scored Seward. Pinch-runner
Amy Koury (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS) stole second, moved to third on a
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) single and scored on an
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) single.
• The Lady Bucs set the final margin with a run in the fourth. Oyhenart walked, and Johnson reached on a bunt single. A wild pitch moved them to second and third, and Oyhenart scored on a Seward groundout.
KEY STATS:• Steagall was 2-for-3 with a double and four runs, and she allowed only one hit, a two-out single in the fourth inning, the first baserunner of the game. She pitched around three walks and a hit batter in the fifth to preserve the shutout.
• Johnson went 3-for-3 with two runs.
• Oyhenart was 1-for-1 with a walk, a sacrifice and two runs.
• Seward went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
• Ferreira was 1-for-1 with a walk and one RBI.
GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:Asbury (1-5) scored two runs in each of the first two innings and held on for a 4-1 victory as the Lady Bucs stranded eight runners, including six in scoring position and at least one in all seven innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Eagles scored two in the first on three singles, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly.
• Asbury added two more in the second on a double and three singles.
• The Lady Bucs scored their lone run in the bottom of the third. Ferreira singled and moved to second on an error. Oyhenart singled and moved to second on a fielder's choice when Ferreira was tagged out at the plate on a sacrifice attempt. After a wild pitch moved Oyhenart to third, she scored on a Steagall groundout.
KEY STATS:• Steagall went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
• Ferreira was 2-for-3.
• Oyhenart went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) tossed five and a third scoreless innings of relief, pitching around three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Lady Bucs return home for a GSC series against Union this weekend. They play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday, both set for noon starts.
