Lady Bucs Split With Asbury

JACKSON, Tenn.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a non-conference doubleheader with Asbury Friday afternoon at Union's Fesmire Field.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Junior Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) threw a one-hit shutout and went 2-for-3 with four RBI as the Lady Bucs (4-12) won the opener 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU gave Steagall all the run support she would need in the bottom of the first inning. Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) and Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) started the inning with singles, and Steagall scored them with a double to left-center.
• The Lady Bucs put it out of reach with five runs in the bottom of the third. Blake Andres (Arlington, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) led off with a single, and Johnson followed with a one-out single. Steagall drove them both in with a single to right. Pinch-runner Kasey Beekman (Aurora, Colo./Aliso Niguel (Calif.) HS) scored when Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) tripled to right center, and a Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) single scored Seward. Pinch-runner Amy Koury (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS) stole second, moved to third on a Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) single and scored on an Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) single.
• The Lady Bucs set the final margin with a run in the fourth. Oyhenart walked, and Johnson reached on a bunt single. A wild pitch moved them to second and third, and Oyhenart scored on a Seward groundout.

KEY STATS:
• Steagall was 2-for-3 with a double and four runs, and she allowed only one hit, a two-out single in the fourth inning, the first baserunner of the game. She pitched around three walks and a hit batter in the fifth to preserve the shutout.
• Johnson went 3-for-3 with two runs.
• Oyhenart was 1-for-1 with a walk, a sacrifice and two runs.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Asbury (1-5) scored two runs in each of the first two innings and held on for a 4-1 victory as the Lady Bucs stranded eight runners, including six in scoring position and at least one in all seven innings.
