MEMPHIS-Senior forward
Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn., Fayette Academy) scored 28 of her career-high 31 points in the second half to lead Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs back from a 24-point first-half deficit to win 60-55 over first-place Lee Thursday night at Canale Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Flames (10-4, 5-3 GSC) opened the game with a 14-3 run capped by a Lindsey Roddy triple with 4:26 remaining in the first quarter.
• CBU (8-5, 5-4) used an 11-5 spurt to close within 19-14 on a
Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) triple with 8:42 remaining in the second quarter.
• Lee went on a 20-1 run spanning 7:12 of the second quarter, capped by an Abby Bertram layup that gave them a 41-17 lead with 21 seconds remaining in the half.
•
Makayla Enochs (Finley, Tenn./Dyer County HS) sparked what became a 14-3 run as she ended the first half with a three-pointer. Reeves, who was held to just three points in the first half, scored eight of the Lady Bucs' 11 points in the second half.
• After the Lady Flames used a 7-3 burst to extend their lead to 51-34 on a Roddy layup with 3:48 remaining in the third quarter, the Lady Bucs closed the game on a 24-4 run, holding Lee to 1-of-20 shooting with six turnovers over the final 13:38 of the game.
• A Reeves three-point play with 2:45 remaining gave CBU its first lead of the night at 55-53. Roddy knotted the game at 55 when she sank a pair of free throws with 1:29 remaining, but Reeves scored a reverse layup with 1:16 remaining to put the Lady Bucs ahead for good. For good measure, she scored the last two points at the free throw line to put the game out of reach with four seconds remaining.

HEAD COACH SARAH CONDRA'S THOUGHTS:
"It wasn't anything that I did, it was completely all of our players. This game was just a tale of two halves. In the first half, we just weren't very good defensively. We were not in good position, they were getting deep on drives and kick outs. We told them at halftime, it's not a big adjustment, we just need to do what we're taught to do. They came out with some tenacity in the second half. We were in great position and had good ball pressure and we just fought. We came back one possession at a time. I'm really proud of our kids' resiliency and the fight that we had on the defensive end. If we would've come up short, I would have been really proud of that second half effort. We just need to play 40 minutes instead of 20."
"The three going into halftime was huge I thought, because it gave us a little bit of a lift. We wanted to get a stop and a quick score, but we didn't get the stop."
On Samantha Reeves' second half:
"I knew she was having a great half, but I didn't realize it was as great as it was. She just put us on her shoulders and we just tried to run it through her as much as we could. In the first half, she was getting some decent looks, she just wasn't finishing with the correct hand. In the second half she made a couple of jumpers and got herself going and then just took over. I'm extremely proud of her. Her defense was really good too. That's the good thing about the offense, you can put them in different positions. Tonight, I thought she did a good job of mixing it up. She did it from everywhere. When you've got a big kid with that type of skill set, it's great to have.:
"It's our first win against Lee since they joined the league. It's our biggest comeback. Hopefully that gives us some confidence. I told them you've beaten some of the teams that are below us, that we need to beat. Now we're coming up on a stretch where the teams we're going to play are above us, and we've got to get a couple of those if we want to move up. Tonight is huge, and I hope it gives us a lot of confidence going forward that if we're down, we can come back."
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Shorter.
