PENSACOLA, Fla.-Host West Florida scored three goals in the first 23 minutes as they defeated the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference quarterfinals Tuesday night to end the Lady Bucs' season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Argos (14-3-1) struck first just 50 seconds into the game as Leonie Kreil sent a ball into the box for Isabella Garcia, who scored from point-blank range for her fourth goal of the season.
• The Lady Bucs (10-7-1) equalized in the 20th minute, when
Sinead Tierney (Winsford, England/St. Nicholas Catholic HS) headed in a free kick served by
Melissa Tammi (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) for her fifth tally of the year. All five of Tierney's goals came in the final eight games of the season.
• West Florida regained the lead for good in the 22nd minute, when Shantell Thompson scored on a direct free kick.
• Kreil scored unassisted in the 23rd minute to extend the UWF lead to 3-1, taking a low shot on the ground and into the net.
• The Argos set the final margin in the 86th minute as Georgia Bailey scored unassisted.
KEY STATS:
• The Argos out-shot CBU 21-8, including a 12-7 edge in shots on goal.
