Top-Seeded Argos Eliminate Lady Bucs 65-52

PENSACOLA, Fla.-Top-seeded West Florida used a 22-8 run over 10 minutes of the second half to break open a tie game and eliminate the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs from the VisitSpaceCoast.com Gulf South Conference Tournament 65-52 Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The teams traded leads throughout the first half, with the Lady Bucs (13-14) using a 9-2 burst to open an 18-12 lead on a Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) triple with 9:01 remaining in the first half.
• UWF (24-5) answered with a 12-3 run to take a 24-21 lead on a Shami Goodman jumper with 2:52 remaining in the half, and they never trailed again.
• After back-to-back Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) baskets tied the game at 30 with 8:20 remaining in the third quarter, the Argos embarked on the decisive 22-8 run, capped by a Courtney Meyer layup that gave them a 52-38 lead with 6:07 remaining in the game.
• The Lady Bucs used a quick 8-2 burst to close within 54-46 on a pair of Reeves free throws with 3:12 remaining, but the Argos never allowed them closer as they salted away the victory.

KEY STATS:
• Reeves scored 20 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks. She shot 8-of-14 from the floor, including 2-of-5 from three-point range, and she made both of her free throw attempts in 35 minutes. Reeves finishes her CBU career with 1,319 points, 578 rebounds and 72 blocks. She finishes sixth in school history in career points, eighth in career rebounds and 10th in career blocks.
• Kenzie Jones (Park Hills, Mo./Central HS) scored 11 points on a perfect shooting night, making all four field goal attempts, including a three-pointer, and both free throws.
• Banks added eight with five rebounds and three assists.
• The Lady Bucs shot 38.5 percent (20-of-52) for the game, including 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from three-point range. UWF finished 41.3 percent (26-of-63) overall, including 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from beyond the arc.
• The Argos out-rebounded CBU 38-34, including a 13-8 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 13 CBU turnovers while committing six.
