First-Place Argos Pull Away From Lady Bucs 54-45

PENSACOLA, Fla.-First-place West Florida out-scored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 13-2 over the final 5:44 as they rallied for a 54-45 win Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Argos (19-4, 14-3 GSC) used a 14-3 burst in the second quarter to open a 22-14 lead on an Imani Mulmore free throw with 3:16 remaining in the first half.
• The Lady Bucs (12-9, 9-8) gradually fought back into the game, outscoring UWF 17-7 over the next eight minutes as they took a 31-29 lead on a Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup with 4:56 remaining in the third quarter.
• The Lady Bucs took another two-point lead midway through the fourth as Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) tied the game on a layup with 7:06 remaining, and two free throws with 5:59 remaining gave CBU a 43-41 lead.
• The Argos tied the game on a pair of Katie O'Neal free throws 15 seconds later, and an Alex Coyne layup put them ahead for good with 4:39 remaining. UWF was 7-of-8 at the free throw line in the final 1:07 to seal the victory as they grabbed the offensive rebound on their lone miss.

KEY STATS:
• Reeves scored 15 points with 13 rebounds and three assists.
Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) scored 14 with two steals.
• The Lady Bucs shot a season-low 25 percent (16-of-64) for the game, including 27.6 percent (8-of-29) from three-point range. UWF shot 34.5 percent (20-of-58) overall and just 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from beyond the arc.
• UWF out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 50-43, including a 12-11 edge in offensive rebounds. UWF committed 16 turnovers to the Lady Bucs' 15.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they visit Valdosta State. Their next home game is Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host Mississippi College.
