Lady Bucs Swept at ATU Tournament

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs dropped a pair of three-set matches Saturday in the Holiday Inn Spikefest at Arkansas Tech, losing to No. 15 Central Missouri and St. Edward's.

No. 15 Central Missouri 3, CBU 0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15):
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Jennies (9-3) hit .274 as they claimed a three-set win over CBU (5-7).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After a back-and-forth start to the match, Central Missouri used a 7-2 run to take a 13-9 lead. A four-point run later extended their advantage to 18-12, and they put it out of reach with a six-point run to go ahead 24-14 en route to a 25-15 win.
• Again in the second set, CBU started strong, taking a 5-3 lead on a Gennah Schoen (Portland, Ore./David Douglas HS) kill. But the Jennies took the lead for good with a five-point run to take an 8-5 edge. CBU battled back to a 14-all tie before a four-point run gave UCM an 18-14 advantage, and they stretched their lead to as many as seven before winning 25-19.
• The third set saw the Lady Bucs lead as late as 8-6 before Central Missouri used a five-point burst to take an 11-8 lead, and another five-point run extended the lead to 17-10on their way to a 25-15 win to clinch the match.

KEY STATS:
• Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) led the Lady Bucs with nine kills, adding six digs.
• Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) hit .250 with seven kills, four blocks and an ace.
• Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) dished out 25 assists with five digs and an ace.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) collected a match-best 18 digs.
• Ke'alohilani Wong (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kamehameha HS) amassed 11 digs.

St. Edward's 3, CBU 0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15):
WHAT HAPPENED:
St. Edward's handed the Lady Bucs a three-set loss as they hit .314 for the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Hilltoppers (8-4) used an early 9-2 run to take a 15-7 lead in the opening set. CBU answered with four straight to pull within 15-11 on a Lenoir kill, but the Hilltoppers scored five of the next six as they pulled away to a 25-16 win.
• An early five-point run gave the Lady Bucs a 5-3 lead, and a Kapria Manning (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) kill gave them a 14-10 lead before the Hilltoppers outscored CBU 15-3 the rest of the set to pull away to a 25-17 win.
• Again in the third set, St. Edward's used a commanding run to pull away in the middle of the set. This time, the Lady Bucs had just closed within 12-11 on a Miller kill when the Hilltoppers embarked on a 13-4 run to close out the set and the match.

KEY STATS:
• Manning pounded a team-high 11 kills with eight digs and an ace.
• Miller added seven kills with two blocks.
• Clausen racked up 14 digs.
• Henderson had 18 assists and eight digs.
• Wong tacked on eight digs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return home Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as they open GSC play against Union.
