Dominant Finish Carries Lady Bucs Past Argos 59-51

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs out-scored visiting West Florida 28-6 over the final 12:48 Monday afternoon as they rallied from a 14-point deficit to win 59-51.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After the teams traded leads early, the Argos (10-6, 5-4 GSC) used a 20-6 run to open a 28-18 lead on a Jade Davis layup with 3:09 remaining in the first half.
• CBU (6-9, 5-4) was unable to come closer than six points again in the second quarter or early in the third, before UWF used a 9-1 burst to open a 43-29 lead on a Chloe Branch layup with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter.
• The Lady Bucs' comeback started with a 9-0 burst late in the third, sparked by a Rafaella Angelidou (Thessaloniki, Greece/Aristoteleio Kollegeio) layup and capped by a Makayla Enochs (Finley, Tenn./Dyer County HS) triple that cut the deficit to 45-40 with 1:09 remaining.
• After the teams traded baskets, CBU regained the lead for good with a 13-0 run spanning nearly six minutes of the fourth quarter. Angelidou started the run with a layup, and she capped it with a free throw that gave the Lady Bucs a 55-49 lead with 3:55 remaining. CBU held the Argos to 2-of-16 shooting in the fourth quarter with more turnovers (five) than points (four).

HEAD COACH SARAH CONDRA'S THOUGHTS:
On the comeback tonight:
"It was pretty incredible. I wasn't doing the math in the middle of the game, but I knew we were down by 14 or 15 and just never could seem to get it going. Shelmesha went in and gave us some good quality minutes again, making a few buckets. Then Makayla Enochs made a big three and we pulled within 5. They were giving us some problems inside, so we went to our zone and I think that really let us get some stops and get out and run to get some easy buckets. It kind of just went down from there."

On Makayla Enochs stepping in:
"We just couldn't get enough energy going. I just needed someone to go in and be a spark, and she did. She went in and hit the big three and she played the top of the zone. She got several kick balls and then they were having to lob it over or extend their offensive even further to try and get it around Makayla. It seems like a small thing but it messes up their rhythm some offensively. I thought that was big for our zone."

On Emily Reeves and her start:
"Emily has been such an energy giver for us, especially these last several games. She may not be your leading scorer, but with everything she does she brings the intangibles. She'll get a steal or a timely bucket, and it constantly brings us energy. It's always a tough assignment for her on defense, but just brings a toughness to the team. She just brings a lot of things that just doesn't show up in the stat sheets."

On Courtney Banks' 8 assists:
"After having 10 the other night, she's seeing the court really well. That's just Courtney being Courtney, sometimes you overlook what she does since you're almost used to it. She's so comfortable out there and knows what we're trying to do. When to push and when to pull up and burn some clock, there's just a lot of trust factor that we have with one another. It's nice to have that out there in a point guard."

On Brynne Lytle:
"This kid loves to play basketball. She's competitive and I love her competitive spirit. While she didn't shoot the ball as well tonight, she never lets that affect her defense or rebounding. She does everything else even when she's not scoring. Having the nine big rebounds tonight, she's just effective and I love having her out there on the floor."

On the standings and recent wins:
"Our kids know when you only play a team once its big to get those wins. So far we've gotten all of those and try to just take it one game at a time now and let the results take care of themselves."

SENIOR GUARD EMILY REEVES' THOUGHTS:
On her big start to the game:
"I just felt like we needed a little energy. I just try to do what I can do when we need it. Whether it's getting steals or driving and kicking the ball out. At the beginning I just felt we needed the energy, so I tried to take it to them."

On the 28-6 turnaround to end the game:
"The group that was in got us going and it was a lot of fun. I was sitting on the bench during that spurt and we had so much fun. I knew when we had the energy up that they weren't coming back. The girls in there just took it to them. Blissett had like three steals in three possessions and it was just so much fun watching."

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs head to Alabama for two games later this week. They visit Montevallo Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. before visiting West Alabama Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
