Tigers Down Lady Bucs Late 70-58

LIVINGSTON, Ala.-Host West Alabama used an 18-2 run over the first half of the fourth quarter to take control in a 70-58 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Early on, the Lady Bucs (7-10, 6-5 GSC) took early control when Kelsey Adkins (Lawrenceburg, Tenn./Lawrence County HS) capped a 14-3 run with a triple that gave CBU a 17-9 lead just seconds into the second quarter.
• UWA (8-10, 5-7) answered with a 9-0 run to regain the lead on an Eliane Field layup with 6:01 remaining in the quarter.
• The game remained nip-and-tuck for the next 18 minutes. Seven of the game's nine ties and 11 of the game's 12 lead changes came between early in the second quarter and early in the fourth.
• Adkins closed the third quarter with a triple to give CBU the lead, and Rafaella Angelidou (Thessaloniki, Greece/Aristoteleio Kollegeio) opened the fourth with a jumper that put the Lady Bucs ahead 49-46 with 9:46 remaining.
• The Tigers answered with the decisive run, first with six straight to regain the lead. After a pair of Banks free throws, UWA scored 12 straight to extend their lead to 64-51 on a Tazsa Garrett-Hammett layup with 5:44 remaining. CBU never came closer than eight again.

KEY STATS:
• Banks led the Lady Bucs with 13 points, seven assists and three steals in 31 minutes off the bench.
Mikaela Blissett (Oran, Mo./Scott County Central HS) added 11 with five rebounds.
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) tacked on eight points.
• The Lady Bucs shot 36.0 percent (18-of-50) for the game, including 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from three-point range. UWA finished 55.3 percent (26-of-47) overall, including 33.3 percent (2-of-6) from three-point range.
• UWA out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 34-24. Each team grabbed nine offensive boards, and the Tigers forced 19 CBU turnovers while committing 17.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs finish the regular season with six of their last nine at home, including the next four. They return to action Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host third-place Lee.
