Women's Soccer Drops Quarterfinal of GSC Tournament

PENSACOLA, Florida – The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs' soccer season came to a close at the hands of No. 2 West Florida Argonauts in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament, 2-0 in the UWF Soccer Complex on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Things remained even on the scoreboard for most of the first-half, in thanks to the stellar play of CBU (8-7-2) goalkeeper Mia Holmes (Brandon, Miss./Brandon HS). However, the Argonauts (18-0-0) struck in the 41stminute off a Jessica Quixley penalty kick.
  • Quixley drove down the field again in the 58thminute and scored her second goal and the final of the game.
KEY STATS:
  • Holmes saved 15 shots from the Argonauts, the second-most in a match in school history behind Andrea Kooba's 46-save effort against Bellarmine Sept. 15, 1996, which is also the NCAA record. Her 15 saves also broke the GSC Tournament record for saves in a match, previously held by Montevallo's Adrienne Peters against CBU in the 2001 GSC semifinals.
  • Tonight's game marks the final game in the careers of four Lady Bucs: Shelby Goodrich (Eads, Tenn./St. Benedict HS), Connie Strini (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS), Melissa Tammi (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS), and Sinead Tierney (Winsford, England/St. Nicholas Catholic HS).
