Lady Flames Edge Lady Bucs in Finale

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs ended their 2018 season with a four-set loss to Lee on Senior Night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Flames (18-13, 13-3 GSC) used an early 7-1 run to take a 9-3 lead they would not relinquish in the first set. After trailing by as many as seven points at 11-4, CBU (12-20, 3-13) steadily cut into the lead, eventually using a 5-1 burst to close within 15-14 on an Alayna Jetton (Nesbit, Miss./St. Agnes Academy) kill, but the Lady Flames held on for a 25-22 win.
• After the teams played to a 13-all tie in the second set, the Lady Bucs used a six-point run to open a 19-13 edge on a Miaya Smith (Memphis, Tenn./St. George's Independent School) kill, eventually winning 25-18 on a Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) block to even the match.
• The Lady Flames hit .342 in the third set. After CBU scored three straight to pull within 18-17 on an Abby Stutz (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Christian) kill, the Lady Flames scored seven of the last nine points to win 25-19.
• Lee again jumped out early in the fourth set, taking early leads of 7-2, 12-4 and 16-6. The Lady Bucs stormed back with a seven-point run capped by a pair of Joze Smith (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) aces, the latter cutting the deficit to 16-13. After Lee extended its lead to 22-17, the Lady Bucs had one more run, using a 5-1 burst to close within 23-22, then 24-23 on a Wadsworth kill before Lee clinched the victory at 25-23.
