MONTGOMERY, Alabama-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs took an early six-point lead Saturday afternoon, but host Auburn-Montgomery rallied to win 56-47 and eliminate the Lady Bucs from contention for the GSC Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (9-16, 8-11 GSC) opened the game with a 10-4 run capped by a
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) triple with 7:17 remaining in the first quarter.
• The Warhawks (9-17, 5-14) used a 6-0 run early in the second quarter to take their first lead on a Makaylla Bullard jumper with 5:14 remaining, giving them a 21-20 edge.
• A 12-0 run early in the third quarter put AUM ahead for good, with a Kyla Rooks jumper giving them their largest lead of the game at 42-29 with 4:39 remaining in the third.
• CBU used a 10-0 run to close within 44-39 on a
Brynne Lytle (Jackson, Tenn./Trinity Christian Academy) three-pointer with 7:09 remaining, but they were unable to come any closer.
• The Warhawks put it out of reach with a 6-0 run capped by a pair of Evelina Avleeva free throws to give them a 55-44 lead with 59 seconds remaining.
KEY STATS:
• Lytle led the Lady Bucs with 17 points, addintg six rebounds in 35 minutes. She shot 5-of-12, including 4-of-9 from three-point range.
•
Mikaela Blissett (Oran, Mo./Scott County Central HS) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to go with seven points in her final road game.
•
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) scored nine points. She shot 3-of-5 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
• The Lady Bucs shot 29.6 percent (16-of-54) overall, including 32.0 percent (8-of-25) from three-point range. AUM finished 35.6 percent (21-of-59), including 33.3 percent (9-of-27) from beyond the arc.
• The Warhawks out-rebounded CBU 44-36, including a 12-8 edge in offensive boards. The Lady Bucs forced 18 AUM turnovers while committing 10.
