Falcons Hold Off Lady Bucs 5-1

MONTEVALLO, Alabama-Host Montevallo scored five runs in the first three innings as they claimed a 5-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Montevallo (11-3, 4-2 GSC) scored twice in the first inning on a bunt single and a two-run homer by Mariel Bertossi.
• The Falcons added three runs in the third, scoring on a leadoff homer by Kelsey Vining then tacking on two more on two singles and a double.
• The Lady Bucs (3-11, 0-6) scored with a two-out rally in the seventh. Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) started the rally with a two-out single. After Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS) legged out an infield single, Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) singled to left to score Ferreira, but a strikeout ended the game.

KEY STATS:
• Ferreira went 1-for-3 with a run.
• Anderson was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
• Hinton went 1-for-3.
• Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) was 1-for-3.
• Julia Schassburger (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS) pitched a scoreless sixth inning, pitching around a walk.

WHAT'S NEXT:
After playing their first 14 games on the road, the Lady Bucs' next 12 games are scheduled for Bland Field, beginning Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Lane for a doubleheader. They also host West Georgia for a three-game GSC series Saturday and Sunday, with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday, both set for 1 p.m.
