Lady Bucs Split in Final Pre-Conference Matches

JACKSON, Tennessee-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a pair of three-set matches Saturday in the Union University Invitational, losing to Henderson State and defeating LeMoyne-Owen.

Henderson State 3, CBU 0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-15)
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Reddies (9-2) hit .206 and took advantage of 38 CBU (5-6) errors as they won in straight sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• HSU used a 5-1 burst to take an early 7-3 lead, and they extended their lead to 20-12 with a 6-2 burst late in the set. The Lady Bucs used a 9-3 run to come as close as 23-21 on a double-block by Miaya Smith (Memphis, Tenn./St. George's Independent School) and Abby Stutz (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Christian) before the Lady Reddies closed it out with two points.
• The Lady Reddies took an early 8-2 lead and never trailed in the second set. CBU drew within four points at 13-9 on a Smith kill, but HSU used a six-point run to take a 19-9 lead en route to a 25-13 win.
• HSU again took control with a big early run in the third set, this time using a 9-1 run to take a 10-3 edge, and they never allowed the Lady Bucs closer than six points again in a 25-15 win.

KEY STATS:
• Miaya Smith (Memphis, Tenn./St. George's Independent School) led the Lady Bucs with 11 kills, adding two blocks and two digs.
• Gennah Schoen (Portland, Ore./David Douglas HS) added five kills with a match-high six blocks.
• Joze Smith (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) garnered a team-best 12 digs.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) added 11 digs.
• Anna Graziosi (Lakeland, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) dished out 14 assists with eight digs.
• Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) added 12 assists with eight digs.

CBU 3, LeMoyne-Owen 0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-13)
WHAT HAPPENED:
CBU hit .434, their second-best mark of the season, as they rolled to a sweep over the Lady Magicians (0-10).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After LOC built a quick 6-1 lead, the Lady Bucs stormed back in front with a 9-1 run to take a 10-7 lead on a Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) kill, and their lead steadily grew to eight points in a 25-17 win in which they hit .500 for the set.
• CBU never trailed in the second set, taking early leads of 11-3 and 16-5 en route to a 25-10 win, hitting .476 in the set with no attack errors.
• The Lady Bucs again led wire to wire in the third set, taking leads of 6-2, 10-4 and 16-7 on their way to a 25-13 win.

KEY STATS:
• Wadsworth hit .458 and matched her career-high with 13 kills, adding a team-high seven digs.
• Miaya Smith (Memphis, Tenn./St. George's Independent School) hit .375 with nine kills, three digs and two blocks.
• Alayna Jetton (Nesbit, Miss./St. Agnes Academy) hit .500 with eight kills.
• Graziosi had 16 assists and matched Wadsworth's team-high seven digs. 
• Henderson racked up 17 assists with six digs, two blocks and two aces.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they open GSC play at Union. Their next home match is set for Friday night at 7 p.m. as they host Alabama Huntsville.
