Lady Bucs Break Records in Setback at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team made a school record 18 three-pointers, and led for over 16 minutes, but fell 94-86 to No. 7 Union, on Thursday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. CBU also set a record for three-point field goals attempted (41), while also finishing with a tie for the 11th highest point total in program history. The 86 points are the most allowed by Union this season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lady Bucs (10-15, 7-13, GSC) raced out to a 15-6 lead in the opening frame, but Union (26-2, 18-2, GSC) knocked down a three-point basket to cut the deficit to 28-24, after the first 10 minutes. CBU was 6-of-11 from long range and led for the entire quarter. 
  • In the second quarter, CBU lead by as many as nine (36-27), following a layup by Kenzie Jones, but the hosts went on a 21-6 run to take a 48-42 lead at the half. 
  • Union shot 9-of-18 in the third quarter, outscoring CBU 22-20, to take a 70-62 lead into the fourth quarter. 
  • The hosts led by as many as 15 points (77-62), but back-to-back triples by Brynne Lytle and Jones cut the lead to 81-74 with 5:39 left. 
  • Union did not allow CBU to cut any further into the lead for the remainder of the contest, outscoring the Lady BUCS 13-12 to finish the game.

KEY STATS: 
  • Rachel Lee and Lytle tied for a team-high with 23 points apiece. Lee finished the game 6-of-12 from long-range, while Lytle was 5-for-11.
  • Lauren Taylor finished with three points and a team-high 10 rebounds. 
  • Jones (15) and Makayla Enochs (14) also finished the game with double-figure points.
  • Union finished the game 37-of-68 (54.4 percent) from the floor. 
  • The Lady Bulldogs were led by East Tennessee State University Transfer, Morgan Martin, who finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds. In the 80-67 win over CBU on Feb. 11, Martin finished with 28 points and 21 rebounds. 
NOTEABLES:
  • Lee, who averaged 21 points per game over the last four contests, finished her career with 1,012 career points. That total ranks 18th in school history. Her 102 starts are second-most in program history. 
  • Taylor's 10 rebounds are a career-high. 
  • Lytle has led, or tied, for the team lead, in points, in 10 games. Her 411 points the season are the 15th most in CBU single season history.
  • CBU finished the season tied for ninth in program history with 67.8 points per game. 
  • The Lady Bucs also establish new records for three-pointers made (219) and attempted (687).
