LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Christian Brothers University volleyball team dropped a pair of hard fought matches to wrap up the Bellarmine Invitational. CBU fell 3-1 to open the day against Tiffin and saw its comeback effort fall short in a five set loss to Virginia State.
Tiffin 3, CBU 1 (29-27, 25-19, 11-25, 25-22)
WHAT HAPPENED:
Tiffin took advantage of a .150 hitting percentage to top the Lady Bucs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs led 15-9, but Tiffin stormed back with an 11-4 run to take a 20-19 lead. CBU had a set point, at 26-25, but was unable to convert.
• Tiffin led by as many as eight points and held on for the second set win.
• CBU led 11-5 and scored 14 of the next 20 points.
• The Lady Bucs tied the set at 21, but Tiffin scored four of the next five to win the match.
KEY STATS:

Emma Lenoir led the Lady Bucs with 15 kills, adding two blocks and seven digs.

Miaya Smith tied for a match-high six blocks.
•
Maddie Stevens finished with a team-best 21 digs.
VSU 3, CBU 2 (25-21, 14-25, 18-25, 27-25, 15-13)
WHAT HAPPENED:
Both teams combined for 63 errors (VSU 32 - CBU 31), but the Trojans finished with 13 more kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• VSU led by as many as seven points, but held off a late CBU rally to hold on for the set.
• CBU never trailed in the second set, taking early leads of 12-3 and 20-8 en route to a 25-14 win.
• The Lady Bucs again led wire to wire in the third set, taking leads of 12-6 and 18-12 on their way to a 25-18 win.
• CBU faced three set points, but fought back to even the set at 25 before Virginia State scored the final two points of the set.
• The Trojans led by as many six points in the final set, but the Lady Bucs rallied to take a 13-11 lead.
• With CBU just two points away from winning the match, VSU responded with four straight points to earn the win.
KEY STATS:
• Smith hit .500 with 15 kills, three blocks and two digs.

Meredith Hollinger finished with a career high 10 kills and four blocks.
•
Madison Spiva had a career high five blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action on Tuesday, Sept. when they travel to face cross-town foe LeMoyne-Owen. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
