MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Christian Brothers Lady Buccaneers opened their 2019 season by falling in their matches against the Maryville University Saints (1-1) and Lynn University Fighting Knights (2-0).
CBU 2, Maryville 3 (25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 11-15)
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Bucs jumped out to an an early two set lead, but the Saints rallied back to win two straight sets to knot things up. The final set went back and forth, but the Saints edged out the Lady Bucs in the final set 11-15.
KEY STATS:
- Emma Lenoir finished the match with 25 kills (tied for ninth in school history for most kills in a single match).
- Alayna Maslinski assisted on 39 of the Lady Bucs' scoring plays.
- In her CBU debut, Maddie Stevens finished the match with 20 digs.
CBU 1, Lynn 3 (26-24, 11-25, 18-25, 17-25)
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Bucs won the first set in dramatic fashion taking the set score to a 26th point (26-24), but the Fighting Knights controlled the rest of the match as they rolled their way to three straight set victories, which helped them claim their second victory of the day.
KEY STATS:
- Miaya Smith led the Lady Bucs' attack as she finished the match with 14 kills.
- Maslinski added 29 assists, which brought her to 68 on the day.
