MEMPHIS – Hannah Ward scored a pair of goals, in her first collegiate contest, to help lift the Christian Brothers University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Missouri S&T, on Sunday at Signaiago Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The hosts opened the scoring in the 6th minute, when Ward slipped a shot past the approaching goalkeeper, to give CBU a quick 1-0 lead.
- Missouri S&T equalized just four minutes later when Kayla Foster's pass found Jess Haller, who found the back of the net.
- Ward continued her heroics, as she intercepted a pass by the Miners and scored what proved to be the winner, just 30 seconds into the second half.
- 2018 Second-Team All-Gulf South Conference selection Bobbie Willis helped lead the CBU defense that kept the Miners from threatning goal.
KEY STATS:
- Riley Chafin finished the match with three saves.
- CBU finished the match with a 16-7 edge in shots.
- Bailey Tadlock led CBU with five shots.
UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to travel to Columbus, Ga., for a pair of non-conference contests. CBU is set to face Clayton State on Friday, Sept. 13, and will wrap up the weekend against Saint Leo on Sunday, Sept. 15.
