Ward Helps Lift Lady Bucs to Victory in Season Opener

MEMPHIS – Hannah Ward scored a pair of goals, in her first collegiate contest, to help lift the Christian Brothers University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Missouri S&T, on Sunday at Signaiago Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The hosts opened the scoring in the 6th minute, when Ward slipped a shot past the approaching goalkeeper, to give CBU a quick 1-0 lead.
  • Missouri S&T equalized just four minutes later when Kayla Foster's pass found Jess Haller, who found the back of the net.
  • Ward continued her heroics, as she intercepted a pass by the Miners and scored what proved to be the winner, just 30 seconds into the second half.
  • 2018 Second-Team All-Gulf South Conference selection Bobbie Willis helped lead the CBU defense that kept the Miners from threatning goal.
KEY STATS:
  • Riley Chafin finished the match with three saves.
  • CBU finished the match with a 16-7 edge in shots.
  • Bailey Tadlock led CBU with five shots.
