No. 20 Columbus State Holds off Lady Bucs

COLUMBUS, GA. - No. 20 Columbus State scored a goal in the 53rd minute and held off a late flurry to defeat the Christian Brothers University women's soccer team 1-0, on Sunday at the Walden Soccer Complex. The Lady Bucs forced three saves by Columbus State in the final 37 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

HALF | A scoreless first half saw the hosts finish with more of the possession and a 9-3 advantage in shots.  
53' | With the match still scoreless, Columbus State earned a corner kick and Maria Kilset played a ball on the ground just outside of the box, and saw Rachael Sweigard fire it into the top corner of the goal. 
FINAL | CBU forced three saves in the final 37 minutes, but could not find an equalizer. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • CBU outshot the hosts 9-7 in the second half. The Cougars finished the game with a 16-12 advantage in shots. 
  • Both teams finished with four shots on goal.
  • Riley Chafin recorded four saves in the contest, and kept the scoreline close with multiple caught passes and crosses.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, Sept. 9, when they travel to Searcy, Ark., for a non-conference matchup with Harding. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
